Week 6: The tray was finished, the blister start

The trays had been finished in this week, my team member - Ting Ting' s and my trays can be closed together with similar edges and thickness. Using the sander to flat the four edges was the key point to match the trays together.

The last items in this skills development process is the blister. Before the class, I looked the video Metalshaping tricks # 5 from Youtube to achieve the general idea what to do in the class.

Firstly, the tutors help us to create the module, two MDF boards was cut and the middle part was cut for the main shape of the blister. My team member - Ting Ting and I chose the generally round shape with a small sharp on one side. Four holes was creates for the nails to hold the metal sheet in the middle, which make the sheet not be moved during the hammer beating.

Secondly, I started to hit the metal sheet with the eggshaped mallet, it has two different type shapes, using smooth side to hit the large area; while the needle side to hit the edges; Also lay down the hammer side to balance the entire beating area, which avoid the wave surface during the process.

After  a long time hitting, the depth of the shape became more clear to see, and using the different types of hammer to sharp the edges with the module. The process is: hitting in the middle, then sharp the edges, flat the entire surface, and hitting middle again.

And when I felt that the depth of the metal sheet was already enough,  I stopped to hit the metal sheet and sharp the edges with the chisel. And finally, the blister was finished!
