Week 3: Workshop tools introduction & the bowl starts

Join in the introduction of workshop for all necessary tools - drill, saws, sanders, etc.

Made a drawer by all tools in the introduction:

Draw the all lines of drawer firstly, then start to using drill, saw to cut in edges.


Using the sanders to make the edge smooth. And drill the hole for the nails.


Put the glue firstly on the edge and place the timber sheet; then nail it!!


Then start to make the bowl:



Start to create a bowl shape by hammers with timber bowl shape holder and sand bag.

When the shape has started to become a bowl shape, but something happened 😓...



There is a crack on my bowl, probably caused by too much hits on the part; therefore, it has to be started again.

Not that bad for the second one. Create the dome shape firstly, then make the surface smoothly; then continue with English Wheel, which making the entire bowl good. Using sander plate to flat the rim and edges.


Now, looks good. 




Now you can see the different quality of these two bowls now. 😀

After 3 weeks modeling the Ferrari 250 GTO, all the metal pieces have started to place on the original board module. But Firstly, the three holes for the grille on the bonnet need to finish. At the beginning, using the module of three holes I made last week to draw the outline on the metal sheet, which this part should be careful for their location; Then it was started to drill small holes inside of the outline to create the gap for cutting the straight line; Finally, in terms of cutting just a straight line, using the jigsaw with a specific blade for metal sheet to create the line. Week 15: tutorial for the metal blister

THE BLISTER TUTORIAL BEIL0014 – DIGITAL MAKING   Before creating the metal blister, it is strongly suggested to watch a tutorial video from the Youtube -  Metalshaping tricks # 5 , which it will help to understand the process and provide a outline for the creating steps:   Steps:  1. Creating the frame 2. Cutting the sheet 3. Shaping the deep 4. Finalising the blister Step 1 - Creating the module The based module made by MDF board should be draw and cut in following the specific outline by course tutors before the class. Two people would be a small group to create a pair of metal blister shape within two weeks, which the metal shape to be creating in the first week, and the second week should be left for adjusting with the group mate.  To creating the round shape in the middle, two tools should be carefully used into this process, which they should make the shape easy to cut and achieve smooth edge for later process - jigsaw, sander and.

Week 9: The Ferrari 250 gto cutting and shaping

Our group mates has divided the Ferrari digital model into pieces by 123dMake before the class. Then we can start to laser cutting the MDF boards for the Ferrari Pieces.  The illustrator programme print into the laser cutting programme in the lab, then set all the figures up to process the cutting. In this week, we have cutting all the pieces for the Ferrari module, which X-total 22 pieces, Y-total 18 piece for shaping the car. After that, it has been started to put into one entire module for the metal pieces shaping.
